Chapter 1
(Bella) Golden leaves fell on the sidewalk as she stood by the window inside the plain dorm room, suitcase in hand nervously. She wiped her sweaty hand on her white skirt, anxiously awaiting her new roommate for the next few years. She looked through the window, smiling down at each stranger that passed, hoping they would be her new roommate. Bella clutched her superhero comic she had drawn when she was nine in the other hand, she kept it around to feel more normal. Less like a freak. Lucy Brennings, the smart independent woman protagonist had helped her to feel like maybe she was kind of like someone. Lucy Brennings was her imaginary idol. Suddenly the lock on the door clicked and she turned quickly, her suitcase falling to the ground with a hard thud on the carpeted flooring along with her comic. She gathered it quickly and shoved it in her shirt pocket. She didn't want her new roommate to think she was a comic-drawing child. And definitely not a superhero. ------ The door opened with an annoying creak, and a tall boy walked through with luggage at his feet. Her eyes skimmed over the taller boy, his skin pale white unlike her chocolate-brown skin. One or two freckles splattered against his sharp nose. He wore long ripped jeans and a plain white t-shirt that nearly blended in with his skin. They made eye contact suddenly, and she noticed he had vivid ice blue eyes that made her nearly jump. His hair was light blond, looking nearly white in the lighting of the room, sitting messily on his head as if he had never brushed it. It hung down a little past his ears, pushed back roughly to reveal small black earrings. She noticed he had said something and she looked back at him. “So? Is this the right dorm? Normally they don’t put boys and girls together.” He commented, setting a black suitcase on one of the beds. “Must have been a mistake. I was told I’d be with an Erin, like the girl?” She commented, her eyes moving to the small amount of luggage on her bed. “Well, my name is Aaron. Like the guy. It’s my first year.” Aaron said, turning toward her. “You're tall for a freshman.” She commented at his height. “Six foot three,” he replied. “Thanks for noticing.” he said, as if she had offended him. “Well, I’m Bella.” She said, crossing her arms, glancing at him slightly. Without a word he left, leaving her alone in the dorm room once again. She tightened her grip on her comic. This would be a long year. |
