Chapter 8

Lunar skidded to a stop, getting back up immediately. The cloudy gray sky poured rain on the two as Lunar and Celeste battled once again. But this time it was different. He wanted to destroy Celeste. He wanted her gone, gone forever and out of his life. Maybe then he could have a peaceful life, without being constantly paranoid and overprotective of Bella.
He could have a normal life through college, going to coffee shops with Bella and falling asleep together as the thundering rain poured out of their memories.
He shook his head. He couldn’t get distracted. Celeste through another fireball, ashes landing in the spot where he had just been. He jumped, kicking off a tree, up to the brick building just above them. He climbed his way up until he reached the top of the building. Celeste shot up after him, landing on the building with a thud. He growled, turning invisible as the masked hero through more fireballs. Most of them disappeared through the pouring rain, hissing angrily.
“What, does the weather not agree with the poor little Celeste?” He teased, smirking at her. She growled, lifting an air conditioner. She heaved it at him and he just barely dodged it.
“Is Celeste angry now?” He smirked, landing on two feet on the edge of the building.
“Is sarcastic comments all you’ve got, or can you actually do something besides jumping and turning invisible?” She sneered, running toward him as if preparing to push him off. He turned invisible and jumped out of the way just as she was about to push him. She screamed, stumbling off the edge to the ground. He leaned over the edge, watching her until he could no longer see her through the fog. He got up, brushing off his costume. He didn’t celebrate her possible death, but smiled slightly as he turned away. He could finally have a normal life.
“Are you just plain stupid? I can fly, in case you’ve forgotten,” He whipped around, holding his breath as his invisibility disguise faded.
“As soon as you’re gone, I can stop. I can live a normal life, not worrying about if you’ve screwed up something again. I can be normal. Sure, chasing after random idiots once in awhile is tiring, but you won’t be around to ruin my life a couple few days.” Celeste snarled. Aaron could barely hear her. He froze. It was as if he had already left his body, watching from above, trying to yell for his past self to run, but he couldn’t hear it. This is what it feels like to die, I guess, He thought, still frozen, watching her.
He felt something against his chest, pushing him. He screamed, tipping backwards. Below him was an alley. I’m going to die in an alley? That’s not very kind of fate, He thought, feeling air and rain rush by him. He closed his eyes, and his screaming stopped. He was going to die. He’d never lead a normal life. Eventually Bella would wonder where he had gone, but she’ll never know.
Everything stopped. At first he thought he was dead, but he was still breathing. He opened his eyes slowly, feeling a hard surface against his back. He was being pushed against it, his feet dangling in thin air. The world stopped spinning, and he could finally focus on the shape in front of him. It was Celeste.
“So, are you going to let me die or not? I’ve kinda got a tight schedule, not that you care much.” He laughed softly, his voice cracking.
“I can’t let you die without knowing who you are.” She said stubbornly, yanking off his mask. His face met the cold air, shock going over him from the coldness.
