Chapter 6
(Aaron)
Aaron couldn’t help but be proud.
Honestly, he didn’t even know he could braid very well. Years of watching annoying older sisters braid their hair paid off. Thankfully, Bella seemed to love the plain curly braid, tied at the end with a light pink bow that matched her shirt.
Maybe instead of pursuing in battling Celeste and being a super villain, he could become a braid-person. Braid-ist? Hair helper?
He shook his head, looking back up in front of him as he walked on the sidewalk with his backpack on one shoulder. He hummed to himself quietly, on his way back to the dormitory.
“Aaron!” A voice that he recognized as Bella’s called from behind. He slowed down, letting her catch up.
“I forgot the key. Do you have one?” She panted, her braid swinging cheerfully.
“Why yes I do, Isabella.” He smiled, looking down at her.
“Great. Do you want help on homework again? I’ve got most of mine done.” Bella offered, smiling radiantly.
“I suppose that’s the only way I could get any work done.” He joked.
“There’s this coffee shop that’s really cheap and has free WiFi near the campus. Maybe we could go there to work, instead of falling asleep in the dorm at the latest hours.” She said, looking up at him.
“A coffee shop? Really?” He asked, an eyebrow raising.
“Well, where would you prefer to go then?”
“There’s a new fancy Italian restaurant that is much better.”
------
“I’ll pay then.”
“Absolutely not, I’m paying.”
“You wish, blondie.”
“Can we just go?”
“Obviously.”
The two walked to the Italian restaurant in silence, sneaking glances at each other periodically.
“Are you sure you know where this place is?” Bella asked for the millionth time.
“Yes, Isabella, I am fully confident in my sense in direction.” Was all he said in return, crossing the street with Bella following behind him hesitantly. She walked up the narrow circular staircase up toward the restaurant behind Aaron silently, gripping the side firmly.
------
They made it into the air conditioned restaurant, immediately being greeted by the sound of a violin and a short thin waitress with a warm smile.
“Table for two.” Aaron said with a boring tone, holding up two fingers. The waitress pulled out two menus, gesturing for them to follow.
They made it to a small booth with a small lamp hanging over it, lighting up the royal red booth.
“I like this waitress.” Bella commented, flipping through the menu carelessly.
“Really? She seems like the stereotypical waitress that tries to convince the two friends that they're definitely on a date, making things intentionally awkward.” A smile tugged at the corner of Aaron’s lips. Bella shrugged, looking up as the waitress returned.
“Hello, my name is Joana and I’ll be serving you today. What can I get you two to drink?” The waitress said quickly with a strained smile.
“Water with lemon.” The two said at the same time, not looking up.
“Perfect, can I get you some appetizers?” The waitress asked, jotting down something on her notepad.
Bella looked up at Aaron and he shrugged carelessly. “No thanks.” Bella said, looking up at the waitress with a fake smile. She walked off, holding her notepad to her chest.
“This is probably the most fancy place I’ve ever been to with someone other than my family.” Bella drummed her fingers on the table, bored
“How have you never been on a fancy date before?” Aaron asked, looking up.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Bella laughed nervously.
“Nothing.” He replied, looking back down quickly. She frowned but couldn’t say anything as the waitress arrived.
They ordered quickly, handing her the menus as she walked off.
“Well, have you ever been on a date?” She asked hesitantly.
Aaron cringed slightly, sipping his water before clearing his throat. “Yeah, with a girl when I was in high school. It didn’t go well, she decided she wanted to get back together with her cheerleader girlfriend at the end,” He said, looking at her sideways.
“I was terrifyingly awkward,” He explained.
“Lets not revisit my awkward teen years, shall we?” Aaron sighed with fake enthusiasm, changing the subject.
“Well that’s good considering our food is here.” Bella pointed out, looking at the waitress as she set down the two steaming plates.
