Chapter 11
(Bella’s POV)
She couldn’t believe her own eyes. She felt like time had stopped completely. There at the door, bright green leaves falling behind him, stood Aaron. His hair was messier than ever, and he was wearing his old navy blue hoodie and grey sweat pants. His shoes were badly tied and looked worn out at first sight. But over all that, she noticed his eyes. Heavy eye bags hung under those icy blue eyes. He looked like he hadn’t slept in several days, though hadn’t once cried. She looked down, noticing something.
He was holding something. In his shaking pale hand was a comic, colored messily red and blue with giant title letters covering most of the page. It was her comic.
“I never read it. But I wanted to return it to you.” Aaron croaked, looking down at her, gesturing to the comic. She felt tears building up, blood pressure rising in her cheeks. A mix of emotions flooded over her to the point she felt as though she was drowning. Drowning in thin air. Trying to speak, but she couldn’t.
Why would he come? Why did he bring back my comic? Why?
“You shouldn’t have returned it,” Was all she could manage to sputter out, stepping out of the doorway, closing the door behind her.
“But I want you to read it.” She said, pushing the comic back toward him.
“Will you read it with me?” His voice cracked slightly. She nodded hesitantly for a reason she couldn't decipher, allowing him to lead her into the outdoors. The sky was cloudless and she squinted up at the sun. He eventually lead her to a wooden bench under a short thin cherry blossom tree. It felt like hours, but there they sat, him holding the comic reading quietly in their heads, the small adventures of Lucy Brennings.
“You should keep this.” Aaron smiled warmly at the end, handing it to her.
“No, there’s no way I’m keeping this junk,” She smiled, pushing it aside.
“I don’t need her anymore,” She gazed up at him. He returned the gaze.
“I have someone else.” She finished, leaning in to him slowly, and he closed the gap.
And that was how their two worlds faded into one.
One world for them to share.
